McDonalds Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait is Halal? Contains Kosher Gelatin
by Tabish Hasan on Nov.19, 2009, under Food
Ever since I found out McDonalds contains beef fat in their fries and are not halal, I’ve hardly gone to eat there. A filet-o-fish is not the same without their fries. Their french fries were the best!
I was in a hurry today and saw a Mcdonalds on the way, so I stopped there for lunch. I debated what I should get besides just a fish sandwich. I don’t eat meat that’s not halal or kosher, so my choices are fairly limited.
I opted for their Fruit and Yogurt parfait. I figured it’s a better option than getting some junk like cookies or apple pies…and their parfait is delicious! While I was eating the yogurt parfait, I remembered that I once heard that it’s not halal since it contains gelatin. I decided to do some research myself and found out that the gelatin in their yogurt is kosher! That means for most Muslims, it’s safe to consume.
Below are the ingredients from the McDonald’s website:
Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait (7 oz)ยป:
Low Fat Yogurt: Cultured pasteurized Grade A reduced fat milk, sugar, food starch-modified, fructose, whey protein concentrate, corn starch, kosher gelatin, natural (plant source) and artificial flavor, potassium sorbate (added to maintain freshness), artificial color.
CONTAINS: MILK.
Nidal Malik Hasan – Shooter at Fort Hood has same last name and is Muslim
by Tabish Hasan on Nov.05, 2009, under Random
I was just at the Ad:Tech NY earlier today, when I saw several tweets in my feed talk about a shooting that happened at Fort Hood in Texas, which left 12 dead. After thinking to myself what a horrible act this was, I thought to myself, “please don’t let the shooter be Muslim or have any ties to Islam”. It’s sad that these are some of the first thoughts that come to mind, but it’s reality. Islamophobia is still very rampant in America and acts like this don’t help the negative stigma.
So when I got home, I put on CNN and of course, it happened to be that the gunman’s name is Nidal Malik Hasan. Not only was he Muslim, but he also shares the same last name (Hasan) as me! And not surprisingly, the media keeps highlighting the fact that he’s Muslim. They’re saying things like, “the gunman, a Muslim named Nidal Malik Hasan was shot dead”. Why does the media have to focus on the fact that he’s Muslim? It’s obviously expected, and I don’t blame the media…but then again I don’t remember the media ever saying things like “Bernie Madhoff, a Jew, scammed billions of dollars from other Jewish investors”? As this story develops, I’m really interested to see if Nidal Hasan’s motives are found or revealed.
Is Paranormal Activity (the movie) real or based on a true story?
by Tabish Hasan on Oct.19, 2009, under Random
I recently watched the movie “Paranormal Activity”. As we were leaving the movie theater, many people were asking the question “is it real?” or “is it based on a true story?”
To me, it was fairly obvious that it wasn’t real. But I kept telling the others in my group….”well i’m not sure”…”maybe”…..just to play along ![]()
I thought to myself, “if it was real, don’t you think the video would’ve spready like crazy on the Internet by now?”
The answer is NO, it is not real! In case of any doubt…there’s even a website dedicated to this answer.
