Apple Has Higher Market Capitalization Than Microsoft
I just came across a WSJ article that said:
With a market capitalization of about $249 billion, Microsoft is the second-largest technology company in the world after Apple Inc. (AAPL), whose growth engines like the iPhone and iPad have sent its market cap to $392 billion.
10 years ago, who would’ve imagined that Apple would be beating Microsoft in terms of market cap?
I remember having a conversation with my cousin whether or not to buy Apple stock when it was around $14 (around 2002-2004 time). I told him something like “Yeah the iPod is cool and all, but there are tons of mp3 players out there. What makes that any better?” So we decided not to buy the stock. See Apple’s stock chart below to see how much of a mistake it was:
Obviously a lot more than the iPod caused Apple’s turnaround…but around a decade later, now it sits around $420! Even when it went up to $200, I thought to myself, no way can Apple’s stock keep going higher! But yet it continued to keep going all the way past $400!
Now I just sit and reminisce on this missed opportunity. No worries, a good quote about “opportunity”, I recently heard (and Tweeted) was:
“Opportunity happens (all the time), those who are poor at seizing it often see ‘lucky’ people all around them!” – Nigel Brownjohn
